Adams State seniors and Northern Ireland record holders Roisin Flanagan (left) and Eilish Flanagan (right), who are both seeking their first individual titles May 27-29 at the NCAA Division 2 Outdoor Championships at Grand Valley State in Allendale, Mich., join DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss the preparation for the final competition of their collegiate careers and their goal to lead the Grizzlies to the first women's outdoor team crown in program history. Eilish Flanagan revisits achieving the Division 2 record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase May 7 at the Oregon Twilight meet by clocking 9:40.68 to also set the Northern Ireland all-time mark at Hayward Field in Eugene, and how she is grateful the event is first on her schedule May 28. Roisin Flanagan, who holds the Northern Ireland record in the 5,000 at 15:38.27 from Dec. 4 at the Sound Running Track Meet, explains how she and Adams State coach Damon Martin reached the decision to only focus on one event at the championship meet, instead of including the 1,500 as well. Eilish Flanagan, who has run 15:40.14 in the 5,000, shares how significant an individual victory would be in her career after seven runner-up finishes in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track, and how motivated she and her sister are to take the top two spots in the 5,000. Roisin Flanagan, a member of indoor distance medley relay championships for the Grizzlies in 2017 and 2019, shares how meaningful it is to have teammates Kaylee Bogina, Stephanie Cotter, Haleigh Hunter-Galvan, Nicole Lawrence, Brianna Robles, Sarah Wills and Emma Wren competing with them, as Adams State will look to win the team title based only on the points accumulated from the 1,500, 5,000, 10,000 and 3,000 steeplechase. They both expresses gratitude to coach Martin and the support staff at Adams State for helping them develop into two of the most versatile distance runners in Division 2 history, and reminisce about past team championships in cross country and indoor track, and the inspiration created to potentially win one more title in Michigan. The sisters also look ahead to racing in Europe during the summer in pursuit of Olympic standards to represent Ireland at the Tokyo Olympics.
