University of Mary graduate student-athlete and Norwegian standout Ida Narbuvoll, a four-time NCAA Division 2 cross country All-American, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss winning titles in the 1,500, 5,000 and 10,000 meters at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships and preparing for her final outdoor track and field finals May 27-29 at Grand Valley State in Allendale, Mich. Narbuvoll reflects on the Marauders also capturing the NSIC team crown and the team's potential to possibly secure a podium finish at nationals with seven athletes qualifying in a total of eight events. She examines the challenges in the 5,000 final, especially competing against Adams State sisters Eilish Flanagan and Roisin Flanagan, two of the three competitors who finished ahead of her at the 2019 Division 2 Cross Country Championships in Sacramento, Calif. Narbuvoll also analyzes the 10,000 final and a matchup against Azusa Pacific standout Jenny Sandoval, a former Division 1 Cross Country national finalist at San Jose State. She explans her ambition to earn All-America honors for the first time in track and contend for individual championships, and speaks about the motivation present after having the Division 2 Indoor Championships at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala., canceled last year. Narbuvoll, who hasn't lost in six races this outdoor season, emphasizes her appreciation for the competition she will face at nationals, and the potential to run under 16 minutes for the first time in the 5,000, and the possibility of producing a sub-33 effort in the 10,000. She looks ahead to her post-collegiate opportunities and the desire she has to represent Norway in international competition. Narbuvoll expresses gratitude for the collaboration she has had with UMary coach Dennis Newell, and how proud she is to earn her Master's Degree in Project Management. She also reminisces about the three weeks she was able to return home to Norway and spend time with her husband Jamison and family for the holidays, and the potential to visit again next year following graduation.
